I think I finally figured out why this piece irks me. The art was beautiful but its abstract.
I don't usually delve into that genre. In fact every little challenge my group has tabled that was abstract gave me one heck of a time in the motivation area. So I had to move beyond that.
As I was working on the blobby trees this morning I found my self dropping into thread painting. So that's the direction I took.
The gold has more definition. Colour is laid down in patches with direction to define space. I reasoned these bushes were closer so more detail might be there.
At this point I also defined the rock structure breaking up the regular "humps" by using the material to dictate the rock size., This was repeated under the organza on the underwater rocks.
I took the opportunity at the same time to place and anchor another layer of organza under the first. This one is a muddy green, and will be trimmed after the trees are complete.
Why, the trees aren't complete?? Heavens no.
They look like refugees from a forest fire. They need much more weight. Even in the original they have some bulk. I tried a few different things but in the end settled with tiny bits of dark green wool roving.
