Project #2 Finished

This was a Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt my friend assembled during the simmer's Covid lock down, thought it's hard for some of us to consider a summer at the cottage as a hardship...LOL

I found it very busy at first but as I worked on it the bright colours were a tonic. 95x95 If it hadn't been a rainy day I could have taken better pictures.

On to the next project.

Project 1 Finished- Repair

In addition to replacing the frayed 'wrap' binding with a classic French binding, there were a lot of areas when the quilting threads had snapped. A lot of heavy use I think.

While the quilt was so old and well loved, the pattern for the simple large stitch quilting showed on the backing, so it was just a matter of following the lines. As the batting was poly and half the fabrics were poly cotton, it speaks to the age of this old girl.

The owner is very receptive to my suggestion that this quilt be retired as it is a memento from her mother.

Time to Refocus

I had so much on my plate but put it aside for family time.

My younger sister flew in and after quarantining at our place we traveled to Ottawa to visit my older sister. Just a short trip but we hadn't connected for a year. Lots of laughs and altogether a wonderful time.

I'm back in Guelph but my younger sister is now on a whirlwind trip to the southern tip of Ontario to catch up with friends.

As for the lovely piece I worked on back in February and March,

the Yorklands Green Hub group ( http://yorklandsgreenhub.ca/ ) have started to organize their art auction on line. I'm not sure but I think there will be a time to view the pieces in person.

And our local Habitat For Humanity group are also gearing up for their fundraising with the CQA prize winning group piece being a feature.

As things do happen in the fullness of time.....it's time for me to start getting organized for the up coming season.

I have a Trunk Show booked for October. It's going to be the first of several done by Zoom, definitely a new ( and nervous) experience. The Guilds are trying to figure out workshops with this media. A lot of variables pop up. But that's for later.

Putting aside Autumn yard work, I still have a big list. Those two new quilt tops are not at the top.

My son's GF brought me an older and cherished quilt that needs a bit of TLC. While the request also included enlarging it I said no. There is no way to duplicate the age of the fabrics. All I'm comfortable  doing is replacing the binding and reinforcing the hand quilting.

I have another customer's Queen size that has been sitting patiently in the studio while I finished the 2 mystery quilts and played with family. I will put that on the frame AFTER I tidy the mess left over from the guild quilts. (Putting it on the frame doesn't mean I'll jump in but it's there for me to walk by and think about the quilting requirements.....It's a busy one)

On the trip home from Ottawa I visited my niece's wool shop in Perth Ontario. ( unraveled.ca ) I came home with new rovings

and enough wool/silk blend for another sweater. I have to study that pattern for a bit.

AND I had put aside a photo taken by my BL, an avid hiking and cyclist in BC. It's been a while since I've done this type of piece and I've been working on it in my head for weeks.

Right now..I'm still making lists.

I think I have enough here to get me through to next year.

Green Quilt top complete

This is my favourite of the two. In some ways it was easier as I ignored the pattern fabric choices when ever I felt like it. The mono colour is striking and rich.

This is a very different quilt than the Blue and Brown.

I'll quilt them in the future once I decide how.

Brown and Blue quilt top finished

I altered the instructions a bit at the end. As I haven't been fond of the tan background colour from the beginning, I substituted the deep brown for the final colour. I used up every last bit of that fabric and had to use cornerstones to finish. The math to enlarge the square in a square block wasn't fun........

Now I think the quilt top is much more pleasing.

 On to the Green.....
