Paris Memories

A friend took her 9 yr old grand daughter to Paris France . (Sounds like one of those movies I always wanted to be in.) This is her memory Quilt
I finished her quilt with a light, simple 'ribbon' meander in pink and lime green.

The colours really pop on the black.

Well Its Only Been a Week!

Still haven't started on my challenge piece.
A friend brought a quilt for me to finish. How can I say no.
I still have plenty of time. 

This was a lovely rich design and she choose a deep rust to finish it with. I'm not a big fan of high contrast on the backside. As some one pointed out to me I'm hypercritical of my own work. When I'm working on someone's quilt I'm too close to it and I see every little slip and tremor. But in the end it is lovely, as you can see.

It just took a long time.
I just had another birthday and standing on my feet for days? didn't agree with my feet like it use to. I took a lot of breaks.
I think I need to raise my prices.

Oh! I missed a spot! Can you find it?
Fixed it. MY friend was kind enough to send a picture if the quilt on her bed.
I love to see where they will go.

Who like Cats?

Most children do.
This cute comfort quilt sat on my frame for a few days. I finally decided to simply cover it with cat voices.

Meow. Miou. Rowr. Purr. Mew.  Lots of words in a few languages.
I threw in a few mice and birds.
And added labels for ten different cats, wild and not so wild.

(Shhh..... all our pets think they are ferocious hunters.)

First Prize Surprise

I received a call last night from a member of our Quilt guild. We had collaborated on a piece. This was over a year ago, so I was surprised when she told me she'd entered it in a local fair.. and WON. This was the Tandem class, HER quilt and my quilting and leaf embellishment.

The photo is not the best, but I remember it was a lot of fun.

Labour Day 2017

Woke up a few days ago and knew that it was time to quilt the four donation quilts my friends had dropped off. I HAD been thinking about them. Yes I could just quickly meander over them but I like to put a little of myself into them, particularly this time as I had no part of assembling them at the retreat.
So each one did receive some serious though, some more than others of course...the ones I REALLY liked.

Summer is over. I guess I'm back to work.

Jane Stickle Quilt - Almost There

Most of you will have heard of this iconic American civil war era sampler quilt.
I AM plugging away and I'm almost ready to take this gal off the frame to hand finish. I've hand quilted 11 rows ( in a little over a year.....seems slow but I have been working on a few other things!!!???)

Baby Quilt - Fishes

A nice young lady called and asked me to help her out of a predicament.
She had started to hand quilt a small piece for her sister's baby. She quickly got bogged down.
The Poly batting was part of her problem. It is difficult to hand quilt and machine quilt, for that matter because it is fluid and often has imperfections and lumps. It quickly collapses as well with washings.

After a consultation I promised her the quilt mid June.
Whew! Did It.

Here's the finished project.

I had to pick out her hand quilting and then sew leaders onto the backing in order to mount it on the LA. The whole piece had pins and pins and pins to keep the whole thing stable.
(I will have a friendly conversation with her about future quilts and recommend a few things and materials.)

The Big fish all have different scale patterns and big eyes and the background is filled with a school.......and one crab!

I used a modified Poseidon's wave in the border.

Back into Harness

Two days of just hanging around, putting things away and packaging others for shipment, napping a few times and tending to my garden....... It's time to get back to work.

I had two quilts to finish. One is a re quilting on a baby quilt that was started by a young lady a few months ago. That's for tomorrow.
Today I stitched a donation quilt for our guild. This is the last of these I will do 'til our guild reconvenes next fall.
Simple squares with a delightful STAR in the centre.
Simple quilting was all this needed.

Jane Stickle Quilt - Row 4 Complete

Once the weather broke, and I finished my current projects and quilting commitments...........I had nothing to do.
I walk by my "quilt on a frame" everyday and a few days ago it was, once again, TIME.
Not all the pictures are great and not all the blocks photographed well but here are the latest 15.

The purple dot is where my air erasable pen "exploded"? It's been a few days now and it IS going. I figure another week.

This was my favourite from this row.

This one is my second choice.

I have a few busy days coming up between Thanksgiving, prepping the garden for winter, house guests and our next workshop, so I won't be starting anything major for a few weeks.
Give my brain a rest!!
