This IS a Christmas present so I guess I'm running out of time.
I decided to add marsh grasses and snow. That places these little guys where they belong.
A rough cutout of a golden material will serve as the base for the grasses.
Batting and backing went on and then I spent a good 4+ hours stitching this down.
Lines of stitching are 1/4 apart. I used 3 shades of blue, matching the thread to the fabric as close as possible.
The end result is a softening of the transitions of colour in the fabric.
