IPM - Day 9

This morning I thought I'd work on some of the parts that I was beginning to find irritating.
They were totally untouched and they were drawing my eye from the areas I had been attending.

Working on the right side only, I increased the trunk colour contrast on the dark side or the largest tree. It still needs more.
The understory at the back was flat and dull, hiding the stems of the smaller trees. Using both a variegated thread and 3 separate shades of olive green, I worked the surface to imply vegetation. No fancy stitching, really. If the stitching were on blue it would imply water.
And the road......this blob of brown knit material was becoming really distracting. I'm not ready to stitch it yet, but I did give it several layers of stained cheesecloth. Now it has some interest and is starting to show the important light patterns.

IPM - Day 8

Here we go with days of tiny stuff.
I was out walking this morning in the early light because I wanted to view the light behind the trees, coming through the gaps in the crowns of the trees. That's the look I want to achieve around the yellow areas in the centre of the piece.

Using bits of pale yellow and green chiffon, I needled them in yellow and green on white netting. The netting is a sub-straight for now? to avoid too much stitching, this early, on the background.

This will take awhile........................

3:00 pm - Hundreds of stitches and the centre is finished. You do realize that this is still the background.........!
I took a small break and played with some trees too. All the small ones are stitched with grey, probably all they need. The large trunk on the right was stitched in about 5 different colours of greys and brown and then given a quick pass with a black crayon. Still needs some work but it's  looking better now.
Enough for today.

Jane Stickle- Row 2

On with the hand quilting....when I had the time. It was a busy month, last.
But this second row is done. Some blocks I really liked doing....others..........Bleh!
But I'm sure that will be true again and again!

So here is row 2...

IPM - Day 7

This is  now, fully assembled, and ready for the magic! Everything that was only tacked on with glue is now captured with vertical lines tracing all the trees. While it's all at the moment under a sheet of netting, not all parts need it or will have the netting at the end.

IPM - Day 6

This is slowly coming together.
The top quarter and the background is pretty well complete. I think at this point I need to move to the center of the picture and deal with the end of the path.
Though I light stitched the "felt" trees into place its still too early to finish them. As they are I can still slip bits behind them.
