Crescent Moon and Tree

After making a template on light stabilizer, I placed bits of grey material and then anchored them all with grey organza. I stitched only the top edge to the background.

The tree material was made with 6 strands of black  yarns, 3 different shades of black/grey. After twisting this tight I let it twist back on itself to give me a bundle of 12 stands of yarn.

Starting with the trunk of the tree, I anchored it using black netting. I will be sewing back over this, but the netting held the loose yarn in place to maintain the gnarled arrangement I had pinned.

Each branch section is done separately. The tips of the branches are really too fuzzy, so I tried taming them with a bit of glue by twisting them between my fingers.

One section complete. the rest tomorrow.

A Wicca Moon - Getting Ready for the Solstice.

I've had this image , a sketch of a pin, on my computer for a while and spent a long time deciding how to use it. I collected it originally for use in the Guild challenge but I've since moved away from that.

But it's right up my alley and it just speaks to me in so many ways.
How to use it.
Then I came across this quilting motif and decided somehow to combine the two.

So the quilting motif is out the door and this Wicca Moon broach is the winner.
Now putting them together.

I had silvered material the other day and used the first piece to construct and perfect full moon. I was undecided how to mount it but chose a mottled blue to represent the night sky.

I had stitched this down but after I changed my mind about the quilting motif I remounted the moon and the blue onto a finished mounting that I cannibalized from another finished piece.

Now the fun begins, the creation of the tree and the sliver of dark moon.

My Ladies Did Their Homework.

Not everyone got finished.
Some chose to redo their branch on a different background.
But I think they all are proud of their work. They SHOULD be!

Starting Two New Projects.

I dislike long term projects. They disrupt my sleep and make me restless.
I wander through google images for hours on end looking for ideas. Free association!
Why do It?
I like being challenged and shaken from my routine.

One is for the Guild's 25 anniversary and is due in May.
The second is the new CQA Challenge due in April.

The fabric arrived for that today.

The theme is "Living a Life in GREEN" ( At least it isn't # Shades of Green etc.)
As before, I will hang these fabrics on my wall and stare at them every time I walk past. I will wait till I'm sure. Its annoying though, as I know I will spend a portion of each day searching for and rejecting ideas.

The second project and currently more troublesome is the Guild one. It's out 25th anniversary next spring and they have thrown out a rather monstrous idea for their challenge.

25 Shades of Gray (Silver). (This is following on the Plowing match theme of 30 Shades of Green.) Sigh.

But actually, I have acted on this one already, as we were informed of the theme last spring. I have collected at least 25 shades of Grey and yesterday I played with paint. Making background material and trying out a few ideas.
Grey implies dusk to me, so I KNOW a major work will involve trees at twilight. (And I kind of think that's already expected of me).
I did play with an earlier idea that involved duplicating an intriguing silver broach. The design was Celtic or Wicca in origin. I liked the flow of it and decided I would do it in cloth.

The sliver of moon at the base of the circles is......... Grey! (Silver)
The tree can have many shades as well.
This isn't large. Just some thing to try out some ideas.........

Like silvering white material for the moon. (pearl paint)

And while I was at it I came across a neat way to quilt it!

I have to think about this though as the tree is front and center and it might be a waste of effort.
