March 8 - Day light Savings

Well there's hope for us yet. The weather network has forecast temperatures ALL WEEK, above freezing. But they've lied before LOL.
I have/had a large pot of tulips in my garage that I moved and buried today, in the snow at the bottom of my porch steps. I don't want them sprouting yet. The temp in the garage will rise rapidly with the sun shining on it all day so they needed to be put back into freezing conditions. We'll see how long it takes a metre of snow to melt.
April should be fine.

My fences did their job and kept B're Rabbit out of my backyard. My neighbours clematis were eaten to the ground but that won't damage them.

 

 

They checked out my fence regularly but made no attempt to go under or over. Whew.

But my Holly (Ilex) at the front took a hit this year. They left it alone before. It will be added to my list of shrubs to wrap next fall. Spring can't come soon enough!

Colours of the Rock

My Fibre Arts Group were over last night so I spent today finishing the mounting of our Jelly Bean House project. In Canada, Newfoundland is often referred to as The Rock so we elected to give our large wall hanging a more elegant name:

Colours of the Rock.

All I had left to do was slip stitch a back to the canvas support, add a hanging sleeve and introduce a ridged pole at the top. This is a heavy wall hanging with all the finished pieces and the canvas backing. Since we can't know whether it will be displayed on a rod or simply "pinned" to a backdrop, the rod is insurance that it will remain straight.

It occurred to me today as I was finishing this, I needed to "store" it until May 1. I really didn't want to fold it for almost 2 months. It would be very difficult to remove creases and some would fall across the pieces. So..........I hung it in my dining room.

50 Shades of Green Day 4

Beading is a slow process. I worked on this off and on today. As I have no set plan I'm "making it up" as I go.
This does not photograph well. I'm liking it, so I guess, for now, that's all that matters.

So I spent about 6 hours "tarting up" this piece.
LOL (Yes I have read the books)
I don't have a lot of embroidery stitches on my Janome but I like the ones I have.

Went out earlier today and bought GREEN beads. But that's for tomorrow.
Now I think I might see to the snow...before the freezing rain.
Will this winter never end? Or at least let up a bit.

Second Background....... OR ...50 Shades of Green

This is about as close to abstract as I get.

 

I considered a number of things for this background including the baby bear. I found some interesting line drawings of grizzlies but I decided they weren't the best for this bg.

This is a gradation of green fabrics. My original idea was to appliqué leaves reversing the shades on the surface. When I constructed this, there was a irregular edge. I cut this off and made some pillow cased applique leaves from them.

But they were a bit lost on the surface. There weren't enough and there wasn't enough contrast.

So using the left over squares from the Unbaby Quilt, I cut simple leaf shapes, enough to cover the surface.

But lesson learned I needed to finish the backing FIRST.

After I "scattered" the leaves on the surface and then I made room for the pillowed leaves. Everything was stitched down.

Finishing this now is a matter of thread colour, satin stitching, maybe some decorative stitches (if my machine behaves) and/some beading??.
