Wheat Fields

I spent a few days thinking about how much I wanted to add in order to finish this piece. I had considered adding some old fence posts but rejected that.  But the piece was just dull.
So I brought up the interest in the wind blown wheat with my old source of instant colour, crayons.

Shades of gold and rust lifted the colour and the added more warmth.

 

I'm in the process now, of finishing the grass and the field edge and adding some summer wild flowers. But that's enough for today. I hear a glass of cold summer wine calling.

This should be finished tomorrow and ready to go.

 

 

Almost There

I find myself under a bit of a deadline here, but I find I work better, a little more focused that way.
I had to stop for some family obligations which is really great, but when you're itching to go off and work on your "baby"....... Another glass of wine helped! LOL

I'm very fortunate to have some friends down the street who I can go to when I know my eye is missing something. With their comments in mind I was able to move forward to the finish with 3 of these pieces.

The Goose I'm now very happy with. Her colour is more uniform and she's ready to fly.

The Summer Bear is nicely camouflaged in the deep woods free to hunt for roots and berries.

And the Autumn Bear, stuffed with Salmon is heading for his den.

All I have left is the Wheat Fields. Stay tuned!

Mama and Popa Bear- sold

One of the reasons I hadn't continued with the two bears was I couldn't figure out why the orange version was so less satisfying than the green version. This is one place Photo Shop comes in handy, I found the orange version was much improved with a very hard cropping.

Rule of thirds? Not sure. There's not much difference, but it just feels better.
The Green bear didn't bother me, but would it also benefit by chopping away part?

After all the time you spend choosing materials and placing them carefully, the idea of chopping off an inch or two really hurts. But very often if works.
The orange bear will still benefit from a few more leaves but that can be added after the fact.

I do that A LOT!

I'm not in the mood to finish the bears. There are a lot of things to be decided yet. SOOOOOooooo

I hauled out a photo that had been haunting me ( there are hundreds trust me.) Going through my bucket list I came across yet another Prairie photo. Today was the day.

 

I used this fabric once before to suggest wheat fields and I liked the effect. So here we are again. I'm sure you'll "Bear" with me LOL

Calling this one, simply "Summer".

 

But this is where netting just shines. Fussy cut to your hearts delight and anchor it all in 5 minutes flat. Cover it with netting and stitch with invisible thread.

 

 

After spending about 2 hours fussy cutting the wheat and then the grass, I need to look at this on the wall for a while. I found some lovely photos of old broken wire fencing that might add some thing to this piece. What size, where to place it if at all. I need to sleep on for a while.

 

 

Back Into the Green Woods

I have a much larger stash of green than I do orange/brown, so working this guy was much easier and far more interesting. Batiks are a wonderful addition.

He is also photoshopped to his approximate finish size. Lots still to do, but everything is in place on this one.
All the foliage is only anchored with a line of stitching. I considered netting this but ended up just tacking them. Now I have to go over each leaf and thread paint detail as all the edges are floating.
