OOOoooooo Quilting

It's been a long time since I tackled a full size quilt and this one is actually larger than most at 95"x135"

I wasn't really looking forward to it as it hung over my head while I worked on the videos over the last month. Once I got them off the table I could think about this Orange (not my favourite colour) quilt.

It took me a full day to mount it and cut an install the batting bar. I don't always use that but bar, this one had too much batting to let it lie on the floor. I did have a loose design in mind but it had been so long I had to spend some time drawing it in the air and with the empty machine.

The other issue was my workable space on my Long Arm is only 18 inches. This quilt had black borders top and bottom almost 24 in depth. I had to break the pattern and apply it in two passes.

But as soon as that orange thread hit the black I was entranced and worked long past the number of hours I like to spend on my feet. This is going to be OK.

I'll sleep better tonight.

Birch Grove Workshop

I hadn't planned on finishing this before the workshop tomorrow but I decided I need some more film illustrating how to handle the bottom foreground. This will be sent to the members after the fact but I hope to have it edited today so I can show some of it at the end of tomorrows event.

Again I filmed over an hours worth of which I need only about 5 minutes.

Here my finished version (3rd) of the Birch Grove. (unbound)

Deer Park Workshop

This video is for the part of the workshop which I will not be covering on the actual day.

It would have simply been too long to attempt this and a second art piece on the same day. It's deceptively simple but a lot of time is used in the deliberate placement of pieces. So as not to make this video overly long I only installed about half the trees that it needs to really fill it out.

Lots of scope for individuality here.

Deer Park - Version 2

Four years later......... original March 2017

So I finished this piece today with a few more stills. I have enough video now that I can spend a day tweaking that lesson. There are a few omissions from the original, (trees), but the ladies can alter this as they like. And it needs a final pass with micro meandering over all the yellow/gold.

This weekend I will finalize and send out the materials list. Now that I've worked through these pieces again I have more info that needs to be included. Then I can start filming the Birch Grove.

I will say, I do love the silhouette of the Doe and Fawn in this imaginary forest. (Fused to prevent fraying, stitched and anchored under black netting)
